New Website For Tarot Card Reader Holmfirth

I have created a new website for myself as a Tarot Card Reader from Holmfirth. I decided to use the Wordpress theme Twenty Seventeen because it features a video header facility. This looks particularly good as the camera I use has an amazing capacity to capture a shallow depth of field.

If you would like to check it out here is the link:

Acme Arb new website using Wordpress

Well its has been quite a while since I creared a new blog for my websute building. In fact I have stopped designing websites and now use Wordpress for my clients. An old client of mine Acme Tree Surgery asked me if I could do an update for their tree surgery website.I suggested Wordpress and a theme called Road Fighter which works very well for them as it stands without any colour added as they use all the original colour scheme.

I first made it in acmearb.wordpress.com but soon discovered that it wasn't practical and so I migrated it to his own hosing server at Freeserve which was recently taken over by Avidahost. It has a really large picture on the first page with three boxes for text and thumbnails promoting his tree business.

Now Geoff enjoys a brand spanking new website with lots of potential for growth and flexibility.

If you want to view the website, here is the link: www.acmearb.com

Thanks for dropping in.

Thanks a million Google!

I've worked with Google from their early beginnings and learned how to get a page recognised and well ranked in their searches. Yes there's a but coming and it's a big BUT...

Now Google have changed their search algorithm, its now called Hummingbird and has messed up and ruined all my efforts to promote my websites. Instead of enjoying the top position on page 1 for a particular search query the same search reduces the website to page 8.

Well what can you do about that. Traffic has halved for my clients that enjoyed a No. 1 position for many years. Their income has severely dropped to a third of its former glory. So what is the answer?

There are many seo "experts" out there saying content is king so maybe that's the next step to get good content, but will google ever forgive me and my sites ranking improve. I do hope so cos I will be out of a job soon...

Lets keep positive and keep on trying!

New Freelance Cameraman Website

I have had a website hosted as part of my BT Internet Broadband package since 1998. Over the years I have perfected my Google ranking and it has appeared in No.1 or 2  position on the very first page of a "freelance cameraman" search. This has pleased me very much and has brought me lots of online enquiries about hiring me as a freelance cameraman.

Out of the blue BT has decided in it's wisdom that it no longer supports the free space as it now has a different hosting arrangement, one which you have to pay.

So I decided to find another free web hosting company. I foud two, weebly.com and webs.com. They both support a smartphone version of the site that you build from their range of chosen themes. It's very easy to add pictures and text to the theme, add new pages and publish to the Internet.

I would recommend trying one of these sites for a web builder beginner but it doesn't give you the freedom of design as if you made something using the tools of Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

So here is my simple site on webs.com freelance cameraman

Corporate Company Rejects Flash

Just created a simple website for a video production company. They used to have a Flash only site which you may know has problems being seen on an iPhone because Mr Jobs had an issue with the Flash owners Adobe. Also, and very interestinglyy, a flash file cannot be read by Google and therefore it won't be listed in a search! The new website incorporates several video clips of their productions supported and streamed by Vimeo.

The site is here: Corporate Video Production

Pelham Puppets

Many years ago when I was in junior school I started collecting puppets because my family would buy them for my birthday and Christmases. My grandmother started it all off when she gave me the Pelham Puppet "Poodle."  It was a simple puppet but more sophisticated ones were eventually added to the collection. I liked those with a moving mouth best. In the end I had about twelve yellow boxes that contained my puppets. Sadly they mysteriously disappeared a few years back but fortunately I had taken one to a different location, so I still have "Mike Mercury!" But I digress...

Two weeks ago out of the blue David Leech who used to work at the Pelham workshop contacted me and commissioned a simple 5 page website. Thinking about it he may even have created my childhood puppet (anyway, I'd like to think so) He also suggested having a video channel to show puppetry skills and instructions on how to untangle strings. So I created the Pelham Puppet Television test card, of which I am very proud.

There was a two page article in the local newspaper which featured the new website. I designed the site to look like a stage with rich red curtains and even footlights. The background image includes the famous coloured strings which were always used on their puppets and features the central page as the well known Pelham Puppet yellow box.

Radio Ga Ga - Online Radio using Video

This is an unusual idea that I have had to get myself and Diana Luke on our own radio station using streaming video hosted by YouTube. The phrase that encapsulates the whole idea is simple  "We Can Say What Ever We Want" I suppose it's also a matter of will anyone want to listen?.

I hope so but only time will tell and you've got to give these things a try anyway!

Here is the link Online Radio Station

Aaron Burton - Holistic U Massage

Heres a nice little website that was made for Aaron Burton Holistic U Massage in Sheffield. It's a clean simple site of only two pages but will grow in the future to become a comprehensive place for knowledge of massage Aromatherapy and Reflexology. I have suggested adding more content in the form of video and Aaron already had big ideas in that direction. But like all businesses in this financial gloom we are waiting to see how things pick up. In my mind its is a matter of selling to people and give them information so that they would like to benefit from the service that he offers.

A pilot video has been made and the voice over is waiting till Christmas and the New Year is over before completing the project

FatCat website Design

Here is my new website called FatCat website design. It shows the three steps to creating your very own website. It's cheap and simple to set up. Ideal for the "one man band" who has a small amount of money but has big ideas that can develop into a powerful business.

It also features the advantages of video on websites. Any one can appear next to the big boys with onsite video streaming their wares and services.

A Second Chance at Life

On 28 August 2011 I died! Yes, my heart went into ventricular fibrulation, I stopped breathing and by all intents and purposes, I died...

And if it wasn't for my wonderful partner Diana, I would not be alive to create this post. At half past four in the morning of the 28th Diana suddenly woke to my strange sounds. A cross between a snore and a gasp. She saw that my eyes were open and tried to rouse me. Nothing...

Immediatly  she sprung into action and called for he daughter to call for an ambulance while she tried mouth to mouth resucitation. The medics talked her through CPR and counted out the heart presses on speakerphone.

Eventually the paramedics arrived and shocked me three times with their electronic pads. They took me down two flights of tricky stairs to an awaiting ambulance, where they worked on me with an intubular air system. Later we learned that out of every 300 external intubular events only 7 survive. I was one very lucky survivor.

After a couple of days I eventually awoke, everyone was hoping that I had little brain damage through lack of oxygen. Fortunatley I didnt appear any worse for wear but I did have a few minutes short term memory loss for a few hours.

Later it was decided that my heart was suffering damage which was termed Dilated Cardio Myopathy and I needed to have fitted to my heart a defibrillator that would check any irregular beats and if necessary take over and regulate the beats per minute. And if the worst came to the worst would shock my heart and jump start it into life.

I came out of hospital on the 15th September 2011, after having my birthday on the 2nd, or as I think of it now as re-birth.

A second chance at life.

MAC Engineers Ltd

Here is an interesting site that I have recently completed. It's just a single, simple page with a Google Map, that's all he wanted. So I cobbled the graphics from his business card and created the text from his ad out of YellowPages and an A4 leaflet. I really like the look and feel of this site and would like to expand it from a single page to multi pages with more pictures of his work and client testimonials would help him with his credibility. Oh and yes a bit of video would always go down well, especially if I could get clients to give their testimonial on camera... I tell him it's not as expensive as he would imagine so we'll have to wait and see.

Video Revue of Unique Hotels

One idea that Diana and I had was to visit beautiful hotels around the world and film them for a unique hotel video revue site. Fortunately I had just visited such a wonderful hotel so I asked the manager if we could film some special rooms at a discounted price to get the ball rolling.

Hoping that other hotels would see the advantage of putting their accommodation on the internet and YouTube in an unusual television type way. The style would be with presenter revueing each room and interviewing people of interest that could give some background information about the hotel.

We enjoyed the experience so much that I edited a special edition with out takes, as there were some very funny moments...

BBC Radio Presenter

Diana Luke is also a BBC presenter across four stations in Yorkshire. She is also a very accomplished voice over artist for radio commercials and TV advertising. She has a very soothing voice and puts it to great use in her hypnotherapy practice in Sheffield. Diana has been in this country for over 30 years and has enjoyed great success in the field of UK radio for commercial stations and the BBC. The website has several pages of famous people leaving quotes after being interviewed on the radio by Diana and are well worth a few moments, browsing the pages. Also there are many audio examples of Dianas vast experience in the media, mainly for promotional work showing prospective clients her voice skills.

So here is the link to her website http://www.dianaluke.net/

Acme Tree Surgery

Well what do you know, everyone needs a website especially if they are selling something.

Geoff Walsh works as a tree surgeon in Sheffield and he came to me for his first website. We took some photos of him wearing his arborist equipment and designed a site that helps him sell logs and firewood 20 miles from Sheffield city centre.

Tree surgery is a very well used term in the Sheffield area and many tree felling companies are all vying for work, so getting your name above the competition is paramount.

Acme Tree Surgery is just one company that has done just that www.acmetreesurgery.co.uk
